Whitley Hall is more about staying put and enjoying long lie-ins and romantic strolls around the grounds than venturing out to explore the surrounding countryside. That said, however, it is only 30 minutes drive from Chatsworth House so it would be a great shame to miss this great treasure whilst staying so close by. It’s possible to spend an entire day visiting the vast house, gardens and magnificent parkland – open early spring to late December. At the same time it’s well worth exploring some of the Peak District villages including: Hathersage, resting place of Little John; Castleton, location of the Blue John Mines and Bakewell – home of the famous tart.
