There are plenty of water sports available at Studland Bay, which is five miles away. From Studland village you can walk to the Old Harry Rocks from which there are spectacular sea views. If you enjoy walking, continue around the headland to Swanage where there’s a long beach and plenty of places for a cream tea or fish and chips. Walking along the Jurassic Coast west of Swanage is also recommended. If you do find yourselves out this way then the Square and Compass pub at Worth Matravers is a great place for pint. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are a must on any Dorset ‘to do’ list - as is a walk along Chesil Beach. Thomas Hardy’s birthplace is situated between Dorchester and Puddletown and Lawrence of Arabia’s resting place is not far away in the village of Moreton. The Lawrence story adds another fascinating dimension to this part of Dorset – you can visit his former home Clouds Hill as well as see his effigy in the ancient church of St Martin on the Wall in Wareham.
