Tucked away in a 365 acre riverside estate near the border of County Durham and North Yorkshire, 5-star Rockliffe Hall is undoubtedly one of the finest resort hotels in the North of England.
The bedrooms are indulgent, with big comfy beds, lots of space and “Tile TVs” in the bathrooms. There’s a wide range of rooms, so choose what best suits your needs and budget. Bedrooms in the 18th century Old Hall are simultaneously traditional in feel combined with modern luxury and elegance. New Hall rooms face south with exquisite views over the golf course and gardens. Tiplady Lodge rooms are eminently comfortable with King Beds and lovely views of the Old Hall. Nearby Armstrong House is surrounded by woodland and has one and two bedroom apartment suites with separate living and kitchen areas – perfect for families and those looking for extra privacy. For larger groups there are also self-catering houses available sleeping up to seven.
As for dining, you are spoilt for choice with no less than three world class restaurants. The Orangery is Rockliffe’s 4 AA Rosette-winning flagship restaurant. Head Chef, Gary Duffy and his team take extraordinary care in sourcing the finest ingredients, including many foraged from the estate. The Clubhouse is perfect for gastro-pub food with a contemporary twist. The room boasts gorgeous views over the golf course, but is definitely not just for golfers. At the Brasserie, Chef Aaron Craig offers top local ingredients perfectly cooked, including fish from the North Sea, game from the Yorkshire estates and meat from Country Valley in Neasham.
The spa at Rockliffe Hall is one of the largest and most luxurious spas in the country. A real highlight is luxuriating in the Spa Garden, with its outside heated infinity pool with massage features and Jacuzzi with views over the estate. Enjoy one of the signature treatments such as a Tibetan Sound Massage or Body Bliss, then relax in a sound wave therapy relaxation bed.
Children will be delighted by the new family adventure area, Mischnash, inspired by Lewis Carroll, who grew up nearby. The range of activities includes an Alice in Wonderland themed nature trail; a large eco-adventure playground, interactive water jets (available during British Summer Time – BST) and six curious cabins featuring different indoor experiences.
Golfers will be excited to spend quality time on the Hawtree-designed 18 hole championship golf course – one of most challenging in Europe. Rockliffe Hall is perfectly situated for exploring some truly extraordinary countryside, including the Durham Dales, Yorkshire Moors and the North East coastline.
