The Rams Head Inn Country Hotel is a 17th century boutique coaching inn tucked away in rural North Devon between Exmoor and Dartmoor. Beautifully restored by owners Simon and Darren, The Rams Head brings together great food, stylish rooms, a feeling of a friendly country pub and a welcoming home-from-home atmosphere.
The renovation has brought out the original character of this historic building, from an ancient flagstone floor previously covered by concrete, to the lovely beams, wood burning stoves and antique furniture. The bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes, including Four-Posters and Family Rooms, and all are equipped with super-comfy memory foam beds.
The 2 AA Rosette-winning restaurant specialises in classic dishes with a modern twist. Executive Chef Alex Pallatt sources the very finest local and seasonal produce to create refined and perfectly cooked versions of such favourites using local produce including Exmoor Sirloin, roast silver mullet with Bombay potatoes and mussels and many more seasonal delights. All of this is beautifully complemented by an excellent wine list and very well kept ales. The bar is popular with locals and well as travellers – always a very good sign. It’s a pleasure to nurse your drink next to the fire, in the summer months, head out to the outdoor tables in the Secret Garden.
The Rams Head is ideally located for exploring the natural beauty of the area, from the 163 mile Tarka Trail, to the beaches of Devon, fishing towns like Clovelly and houses and gardens such as Arlington Court and RHS Rosemoor.
