Pass beneath the sign at this utterly charming historic inn and you tread the footsteps of King Charles II, who came here to recover from his defeat by Oliver Cromwell at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. The fine old building on Chipping Campden High Street is one of the oldest in the Cotswolds, although with the progress of time it is now an appealing mix of the old and the new.
The bedrooms are quaint and quintessentially English, with antique furniture alongside simple décor and modern comforts. The four-poster room is particularly opulent, with a magnificent 17th century carved bed to provide sweet dreams.
The restaurant serves both modern British sourced from the finest Cotswolds ingredients alongside authentic Indian cuisine. Head Chef Indunil Upatissa has been awarded three times the Great British Pub Awards for Best Curry Chef, so his curries are highly recommended. The food menu is also available in the Conservatory and charming Dover’s Bar, named after the founder of the famous Cotswold Olympic Games, offering original beams, open log fire and a warm pub atmosphere in which to enjoy local ale alongside your food. The onsite coffee shop is a nice spot to while away some time with a homemade cake.
With its peaceful location in the village of Chipping Campden, the Noel Arms Hotel is also ideal for tracing the Cotswold Way, which starting right outside the front door, winds its way through glorious neighbouring countryside. There are a wealth of historic houses and gardens within easy reach, too, as well as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Cheltenham.
