Yorkshire in Autumn at The White Swan

Guest Blogger Marion Buchanan owner of The White Swan at Pickering invites us enjoy the pleasures of a Yorkshire Autumn.

Summer excitement and the related chaos is over & naturally there is time for routine and calm. The Indian summer may continue sporadically but it paves the way for cooler, crisper days – the leaves turning and almost before we can blink the inevitable stampede towards Christmas & New Year.
It is the perfect time to enjoy a short break closer to home – a small bag to pack and a car to jump into – no airports, no parking, no rush – just time to relax, breathe and take stock of life.
In our beautiful corner of this wonderful country the moorland heather is at its best – a rich purple carpet – best enjoyed in our opinion from the steam train which leaves from Pickering every morning taking you as far as Whitby for that ubiquitous plate of fish and chips. Best enjoyed after a blowy walk on the beach.
Or if adrenalin is your thing how about a blast through the world mountain bike course in the beauty of Dalby Forest – imagine the colours as Autumn sets in.
From the world famous Castle Howard to the rarity of the beautiful mediaeval wall paintings in our town parish church there is every opportunity to warm the soul without any hustle or hurry.
Where could be the better place to base yourself while enjoying the perfect seasonal break?  At the White Swan in Pickering fires are being lit, glasses of red wine poured and the comfort of slow cooked & seasonal food is waiting at a table. A comfy bed in the cosiest of rooms is ready for you in one of our traditional vintage or modern country hideaway rooms.  Or a beautiful French antique four poster as a special treat? Our smiling staff will be on hand to ensure a perfect stay!
Time to kick off those shoes and tuck in – this really is God’s own county – selflessly we welcome you to share it!
