What’s the difference between Best Loved Hotels and that other hotel guidebook I’ve seen?
Best Loved Hotels is different from other hotel guidebooks in a variety of ways. For the leisure traveller or casual reader, we’re different because we include a wealth of information and data that you won’t find in other books, such as a summary of ratings and awards from established agencies and tourism boards, a detailed description of room rates, and comprehensive lists of nearby attractions and on-site activities. For the corporate or travel trade user, Best Loved is different because of our commitment to providing travel agents and others with the dedicated support they need to make bookings with ease and accuracy (check our special section for the travel trade for more information). Finally, for hoteliers, Best Loved is unique in the wide range of services and promotional opportunities we offer our member hotels click here for details).

How are hotels selected to be in Best Loved?
Best Loved’s annual selection process is a rigorous search for the best new and established hotels in the UK and Ireland. Only after a hotel has passed our research and inspection criteria is it invited to become a part of our directory, and continuing evaluations take place to ensure that member hotels continue to meet our standards of comfort, quality, individuality and service.
|
|
Are hotel chains like Best Western or Marriot included in Best Loved?
As a rule, we never include hotel chains simply by virtue of their being well-known hotel chains; we pride ourselves on our careful selection of unique and characterful individual hotels on the merits of the properties themselves. However, a number of Best Loved hotels are members of well-respected groups or consortia of varying sizes, and their affiliations to these groups are listed on the hotels’ individual Web pages.

|
I live overseas, and the time difference means I have trouble calling people in the UK or Ireland. How can I make a booking without calling a hotel?
We understand that as our Web users come from all over the globe, it might not be practical for everyone to call or fax a hotel directly. However, every Best Loved hotel has a dedicated e-mail address listed on its Web page (in the form of hotelname@bestloved.com).
|
|
What if I’ve e-mailed a hotel, but heard nothing back yet?
In nearly every case, you should hear back from a Best Loved hotel within a day or two, depending upon the day of the week and time of day you’ve written. However, please do keep in mind that some hotels, particularly in northern England and Scotland, close for selected periods in the winter – closure information is listed on each hotel’s Web page. If you’re still concerned about a hotel’s reply, please drop us a line at customerservice@bestloved.com and we’ll be in touch.

I’m trying to book a corporate event or business trip for someone at my company. Can Best Loved help me?

Many hotels also offer modern amenities like video projectors, broadband Internet access and teleconferencing; contact hotels you’re interested in directly for more details. Additionally, if you’re a corporate events planner and you don’t receive a copy of our quarterly Corporate News or online corporate e-newsletter, drop us a line at customerservice@bestloved.com and we’ll be happy to add your information to our records.

I’m a smoker. What’s the latest on smoking regulations in the United Kingdom and Ireland?
As of spring 2004, Ireland has a ban on smoking in pubs, restaurants and all workplaces; some hotels may still allow smoking in their rooms. In the United Kingdom, smoking is allowed in many pubs, restaurants and other public areas. If you’re unsure about whether a Best Loved hotel allows smoking in specific areas, check the hotel’s Web page for more details, search for non-smoking or smoker-friendly hotels or contact the hotel directly.

I’m in a wheelchair, and require ramps to my room and a roll-in shower. How do I know if the hotels I’m interested in have disabled access?
Disabled-access facilities are available at many Best Loved hotels, but they do vary widely from hotel to hotel. We suggest that you check the hotels’ individual Web pages for more information or search for hotels that list disabled access, and then check directly with the hotel to confirm that they can accommodate your requirements.
