Recently Paddy Burt revealed that she is stepping down after 18 years as the 'Room Service' columnist at The Daily Telegraph. Every Saturday, her firm but fair reviews of independent hotels across England and Wales (with an occasional peak into Scotland) were an informative, witty, personal and above all, honest look at what makes staying in British hotels such a great experience.
Long-term users of Best Loved may have noticed that many of our hotels use quotes from Paddy Burt on their pages, which is a testament to her commitment and support of the independent hotel industry. And it is no coincidence, of course, that so many Best Loved hotels feature prominently on her list of favourites.
And although Saturday breakfast over the newspapers won't be quite the same without her, Michael Rowley, the new Telegraph hotel reviewer, has inaugurated a new column. For his first review, he takes a very positive look at a long-time Best Loved favourite, The White Swan Inn in Pickering, Yorkshire. So, we wish Mr. Rowley the best with his 'Staying Over' column, and we wish Paddy Burt and her husband well in all their future endeavours.
Best wishes,
