In my recent travels around to Best Loved hotels in the U.K. and Ireland, I have been very impressed by the level of passion and commitment many of our hoteliers have displayed to creating environmentally sustainable businesses. Best Loved's Eco-friendly hotels care as much about being green as in the black - whether it's by conserving water, using where possible only local, seasonal and ecologically sustainable produce, minimising electrical appliances, or by recycling.
One of our greenest hotels is the elegant Pear Tree at Purton, the recent winner of the Silver Award under the Green Tourism Scheme. Located in the charming village of Purton, just at the southern end of the Cotswolds, The Pear Tree not only does all the above, it acts as environmental protector to its seven acres of on-site wetlands, wild flower meadows and ponds. The Pear Tree has recently planted hundreds of indigenous wild flowers and trees and it monitors and records visiting fauna, making the surrounding area a delight for walkers and nature-lovers.
