At Best Loved we are committed to bringing you the best hotels in many different categories and budgets - from stately homes and 5-star resorts to converted farmhouses and thatched cottages. One of our favourites types of accommodation are the historic inns you find dotted across the countryside - those quintessential repositories of old-fashioned charm, excellent food, and warm, personalised hospitality.
In last week's Guardian newspaper, travel writer David Hancock published a list of his 20 favourite gourmet inns in England and Wales, and I am pleased to congratulate The Hoste Arms in Norfolk, The Crab at Chieveley in Berkshire, The Devonshire Fell in Yorkshire, and The Rose and Crown in County Durham for their well-deserved mention. Each of these inns sets a shining example of what makes Best Loved hotels so special.
Also, I would like to welcome two new West Country hotels to Best Loved - Fox and Hounds Country Hotel in Devon and The Longcross in Cornwall. The Fox and Hounds is a charming country house equidistant from both Dartmoor and Exmoor, surrounded by beautiful countryside perfect for outdoor pursuits. Longcross is an elegant Victorian retreat perched on the coast high above the picturesque fishing village of Port Isaac.
