Now that June is at last busting out all over, my thoughts turn to the joys of the classic summer seaside holiday. In recent days I've been visiting Best Loved hotels all over Ireland, stopping off to surf at the fabulous Sandhouse Hotel in Co Donegal. The Sandhouse sits on a three mile long sandy beach which is one of the treasures of Ireland's West Coast.

Another Best Loved seaside favourite is The Enchanted Manor, on the Isle of Wight. Owners Rick and Maggie have just been awarded the A.A.'s Funkiest B&B award for 2008. A fitting accolade, as The Enchanted Manor offers a one-of-a-kind fairy tale atmosphere along with the highest standards of service and luxury, making it one of our favourite island getaways.

It's also my pleasure to welcome a seaside hotel new to Best Loved - the Old Coastguard in the ultra-charming fishing village of Mousehole, Cornwall. Amazing sea views, acclaimed food, and a lovely terrace and gardens leading down to a rocky tidal pool beach make this a relaxing haven.
