Best Loved Recommends

  • Room 7 (Goredale) - which is furnished with a gold French vintage cane bed and an in-room bath tub
  • Bringing the dog.  They welcome well behaved dogs and even have facilities for washing dogs down after a muddy walk
  • Asking the staff for walking suggestions – they know the local area well and have lots of guides and maps
  • Exploring the unusual local limestone scenery including the dramatic pot hole of Gapping Gill
  • Visiting the local historic market towns such as Kirkby Lonsdale and Settle

Things To Do Nearby

There is actually so much to do in this area you may just like to book an extra night or two. It’s obviously great walking country:  the hotel is on the fringe of the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is only a mile away.  Recommended walks include: the Three Peaks, Ingleborough’s Waterfall Walk and Ruskin’s View. The scenic Settle to Carlisle Railway, which crosses the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, is a great day out and only 5 miles from the hotel. Settle is also worth visiting just for its interesting collection of shops and cafés - as is the nearby historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. Combining a visit to Fountains Abbey, the gardens at Studley Royal and Harlow Carr (RHS) would also make for an interesting day trip. If travelling with children the labyrinth of tunnels and follies at the Forbidden Corner is fantastic as is the Bowland Wild Boar Park.
