Quote Best Loved to get the best dealWith the increasing number of contemporary styled hotels there's something appealingly comforting about the timeless feel of this handsome red bricked Georgian property. It has a fascinating history dating back to the early 1700s when it was designed to be the principal residence of this quiet and attractive village sandwiched between the Lake District and the Pennines. The hotel is overlooked by Cross Fell, the highest peak in the Pennines, and yet is just a 15 minute drive from Ullswater, 'Cumbria's finest lake'. Hadrian's Wall and the Yorkshire Dales are also easily reached. The long, walled garden to the rear of the House is a lovely surprise and owners Paul and Julie Evans are superlative hosts whose team are courteous and attentive. The bedrooms are traditionally decorated and elegantly furnished. Bathrooms are up-to-the-minute, and some of the superior rooms are equipped with aqua-spa baths. Molton Brown toiletries add to the overall level of luxury. Head Chef Ashley Whittaker has been attracting a lot of attention for his imaginative dishes. Surrounded by first-class producers and suppliers from both Cumbria and Yorkshire, he doesn't have to go far to source seasonal ingredients - sometimes only as far as the garden!
