Nestled at the foot of Ben Cruchan and set in the lovely Highland village of Taynuilt (“house by the burn” in Gaelic) between Lochs Awe and Etive, Taynuilt: Etive Restaurant with Rooms is a traditional coaching inn which has served for centuries as a beacon of hospitality in Argyll.

Even by the generous standards of the Highlands, the welcome here is particularly warm and inviting. Each of the ten bedrooms, all of which are named after Scottish lochs, has been recently refurbished. Expect individual character, flatscreen TVs and ultra-comfortable beds.

The emphasis at Taynuilt is very much on the food and the restaurant here has become a culinary destination in its own right. Head Chef John McNulty works hard to source the finest local Argyll produce. You have your choice of the main restaurant, the Snug Restaurant (the same menu but quieter and perfect for family or small groups) and the Lounge Bar with a homemade bar menu. The bar in fact also serves as the best country pub in the area with a superb selection of craft ales, malt whiskeys and gins specially selected by drinks expert and General Manager David Lapsley.

There is no shortage of natural beauty and history to explore near Taynuilt. There is a huge variety of nearby hill walking, from the easy to the demanding, including the gorgeous “Cruchan Horseshoe” walk. You are also just a short drive from Oban, the gateway to a host of wonderful Hebridean islands. Anglers and golfers are also well looked after with Loch Awe and Taynuilt golf course on the doorstep.
