Dating from 1450, Redcoats is both an acclaimed hotel and a much loved family home. The rooms are really comfortable and the hotel is a good size for hosting weddings for up to 50 people, and for large weddings of more than 100 guests, a marquee can be placed on the lawn. The hotel is set in four acres of gardens and enjoys unspoiled views over the countryside, yet is only five minutes from the A1 and 20 minutes from the M1 and M25. This location is in fact one of Redcoats' greatest selling points. Knebworth House, 'the stately home of rock', is nearby as is Hatfield House. Knebworth has hosted major rock concerts of up to 250,000 people since the seventies. If rock and roll isn't your cup of tea, there is always St Albans, or as the Romans named it, Verulamium. The magnificent Abbey Church dominates the skyline of St Albans, once the third largest city in Roman Britain. The city is best known for the shrine of St Alban to Britain's first Christian martyr. Today, the city and its antiques emporia possess many a glittering treasure to tempt the interest and pocket of the passer-by.
