What we love about Home House

  • Three resplendent Georgian townhouses joined together to suit every mood. Vertical or horizontal, you will always be amazed
  • There are over 200 fireplaces
  • It was the residence for Anthony Blunt, the infamous spy
  • It was originally never designed to live in, just to party in!
  • Most of the House is Grade I heritage listed
  • A bath made for His Highness Say Aji Rao III, Maharajah Gaekwad of Baroda (1863-1939) features in the Duke of Atholl’s Suite
  • There are two gardens, to the front and rear of the House
  • It is perfectly situated in the heart of the West End, but doesn’t feel like it

The stereotype of the traditional gentlemen’s club has long been loved and loathed in equal measure. Pleasingly, when walking through the discreet door in Portman Square, it is clear that Home House is most definitely different. Any pretence of “old-school” formality and “bizarre” rules are clearly outdated – this is a universally welcoming, warm and relaxed ambience where everyone can meet, socialise and discuss the irreverent and pertinent in equal measure.

Located across three gorgeous Georgian town houses at 19, 20 and 21 Portman Square, Home House offers its members a dramatic fusion of the old and the new. Encompassing a total of two restaurants, seven bars, five drawing rooms, twenty three bedrooms, a beautiful garden and a comprehensive gym, the House really does offer a unique destination in the heart of London’s West End.

Designed by James Wyatt in 1773, the exteriors complement the opulent Robert Adam interiors. The luxury bedroom suites boast many original 18th century features, including the Patricia Portman with its hand-painted Chinese wallpaper and the Lady Islington with its bathroom fashioned from the same strata of marble as St. Pauls Cathedral. The elegance and grandeur of the House throughout has been fused with cutting-edge minimalist interiors. ‘21’ boasts an edgy bar designed by internationally renowned architect, the late Zaha Hadid, and a sumptuous reception and drawing rooms by the renowned designers Candy & Candy.

The restaurant rewards the discerning diner with a delicious, seasonal A La Carte Menu, together with a Du Jour Menu; enjoying wonderful airy views overlooking Portman Square and seating up to 70 guests.  With a relaxed dress code and discretion between tables, the restaurant offers the perfect place to dine in luxurious, yet informal surroundings. A more contemporary dining experience can be enjoyed in the Octagon Dining Room. Taking its name from the shape of its floor plan, the re-furbished Octagon Dining Room is a magical jewel-box of a room, where the haute-luxe aesthetic provides a perfect contemporary foil for the stunning 1820s ceiling. Watched over by splendid neo-classical nymphs and zephyrs, this intimate space welcomes 20 diners in style with a menu offering an elegant fusion of flavours, drawing its influences from across Asia.

Keeping active during your stay couldn’t be easier - there’s a gym and spa is integrated into the Grade I listed Robert Adam building, creating a work out environment like no other.  You can take advantage of the tutelage of one of the expert personal trainers and afterwards relax in the eucalyptus steam room or sauna.

The House brings together people of all cultures in a vibrant melting pot, where members come to meet friends, network and relax.   Fabulous parties and events in all areas of the building are frequently a highlight, the House offering a glamorous venue for any type of celebration, be it a gathering of close friends in one of the grand dining rooms, or a wedding in the resplendent Front Parlour and Eating Room.
