Best Loved Recommends

  • The Kitchen Table (for two) – a ringside seat from which to enjoy the full theatre of the brigade at work
  • Enjoy a glass of wine and a light lunch in the Garden Room
  • Request a bedroom with ‘that’ view (although all the rooms are utterly exquisite)
  • Leave yourselves enough time in your itinerary for relaxing and enjoying the hotel and its setting
  • Aim for the Dark Peak if you want to walk among some of the best Derbyshire scenery
  • Nearby Bakewell to sample a slice of the town’s famous tart or pudding (there’s some contention as to which is the original)

Things To Do Nearby

Visiting Chatsworth: the house, the gardens, the various shops, the Estate village at Edensor and the surrounding Parkland can take up a whole day – or more. If you still have time after that then it’s well worth visiting the village of Eyam – known as the ‘plague village’. If you have children with you they might like to visit the (very long) Grave of Little John – of Robin Hood fame and the Blue John Caves at Castleton. Keen walkers will get a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape from Froggatts Edge. Another of the loveliest walks in the area is along the Great Ridge that runs between Mam Tor and Lose Hill – starting from Castleton. There’s a thriving outdoor scene in the Peak District with endless opportunities for hiking, climbing and caving.
