This 360 year old stagecoaching inn, and much loved local landmark, is enjoying a well deserved renaissance after being passionately restored by local owners, and proud custodians, Paul and Hilary Levack. Being situated on the Great North Road, former territory of Highwayman Dick Turpin, it has strong motoring associations - being the only British checkpoint for the 1959 Monte Carlo Rally. With the classic St Leger Racecourse on the doorstep at Doncaster it has strong racing connections too. Famous guests have included Queen Victoria and Shirley Bassey. Ye Olde Bell is now one of the best preserved inns in England - with oak panelling, antiques, sparkling chandeliers and crackling log fires. Upstairs, whilst you'll find pretty 'cottage' style rooms with exposed beams and leaded windows, you'll also find decorative gilt furniture, sumptuous velvet, silk brocade and elaborate beading. The hotel is reliving its heyday and has, once again, become 'the' place to host weddings, banquets and balls. There's both an elegant restaurant and a fabulous Bistro-by-the-Bar. In the extensive gardens you'll find a magical oak pavilion and a sophisticated 'Inside-Outside' bar with a 'Mediterranean' terrace. It's a recommended pit stop off the A1 and a perfect base for visiting Lincoln, Chatsworth, Newark Antique Fair and Sherwood Forest.
