During the English Civil War Oliver Cromwell's roundheads flattened Wood Hall, and threw its stonework into the nearby River Wharfe. The present building was erected in 1750 as a country escape for the Vavasour family, using much of the original material. Now this stunning Georgian mansion, set at the end of a sweeping drive in its own 100 acres of parkland, has been sympathetically converted into a luxurious hotel. All 44 bedrooms provide the highest standards of comfort, and a host of extras including luxurious bathrobes, large screen TV and DVD player. Views over Wharfe Valley are extraordinary. The two AA Rosette-winning Georgian Restaurant offers excellent menus, with seasonal ingredients from the Yorkshire Moors and local farms providing ample inspiration.
