Cutting edge boutique hotel in pastoral Suffolk setting

This historic watermill was converted a few years ago into a gloriously cutting edge boutique hotel. It's in an idyllic pastoral Suffolk setting surrounded by ancient water meadows with a mill pond and mill stream, which are home to a variety of wildlife including otters and herons. The refurbishment was carried out by a team of architects, craftsmen and conservationists who managed to create a stunning blend of original features, including the cast iron waterwheel, and contemporary design. The interiors are spacious, bright and minimalist with exposed oak beams and plate glass walls. In the bedrooms you'll find six-foot beds with Egyptian cotton linen, chic Italian furnishings and Bose sounds systems. In the bathrooms there are walk-in showers, Elemis toiletries and luxurious double-ended bathtubs. The Loft Suites have lovely wooden balconies - whilst other rooms have blissfully private terraces. On the food front they are doing something genuinely different. Such dishes as fried peas and mushy fish, and mackerel 52 degrees C with plum emulsion might appear on the tasting menu. He ad Chef Paul Foster was trained by Sat Bains and his innovative menus and exciting style of cooking are already receiving national accolades.
