The Ship at Dunwich(Southwold, Suffolk, UK) |

This perfect English inn is situated in a small ancient village on Suffolk's Heritage Coast. It's easy to imagine that its remote setting and close proximity to the beach made it a much frequented hideout for smugglers. There is a beautifully mysterious quality to the landscape here, which is made up of windswept heath land, coastal lagoons, reed beds, tidal salt marshes and long shingle strand. Whilst The Ship has been recently refurbished, the interiors happily have remained in keeping with the building's heritage. In the bedrooms there are wrought iron or pine bedsteads and rustic style furniture. The confortable beds have pocket sprung mattresses and thick feather duvets. There are wonderful views of the beach and the marshes and the very best thing is lying in bed listening to the rhythmic sound of the sea. You can look forward to traditional, home cooked food. They are well known for their fish and chips but also serve other much loved English favourites such as steak and ale pie and bread and butter pudding. They have an excellent selection of real beers including ales from famous local brewers Adnams.
