The Samuel Fox Country Inn(Peak District, Derbyshire, UK) |

You'd have to go a long way before finding two better hosts than Charlie and Kelly, the managers of this recently refurbished Derbyshire country inn. The property retains a sense of its heritage whilst the stylish interiors give it a very up-to-the-minute feel. Each of the bedrooms is fabulously decorated and far outweighs expectations. The colour schemes have obviously been chosen by an expert - restful shades of green are teamed up with vivid fuchsia and petrol blue. As an example of the kind of attention to detail you'll find here - coffee, freshly ground upon your arrival, is served with Thornton's Chocolates added to the already generous hospitality tray. After a long day relax by open fires and sample fine wines and a hearty selection of local ales in the rustic charm of the bar. Charlie is in charge of the kitchen. He keeps things simple using the best local produce, which is abundant. The menu is so good it's hard to choose between such delicacies as ham hock terrine, slow braised shoulder of lamb, bread and butter pudding with custard and local Bradwell ice creams. 'There is not a finer county in England than Derbyshire', wrote Jane Austen in Pride and Prejudice - and there is not a finer place from which to explore the magnificent natural beauty of the Peak District. Many fantastic walks are within easy reach and the man-made glories of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are only minutes away by car.
