The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel(Ambleside, Cumbria, UK) |

This traditional stone Lakeland house is situated at the head of one of the grandest valleys in England. From the minute you step over the threshold you can tell that this is a family run hotel. Today Rebecca Manley the daughter of the founder continues the New Dungeon Ghyll tradition of providing a friendly and homely environment. The hotel attracts many outdoor enthusiasts and the relaxed comfortable setting is a perfect place to return to after a day out in the elements. Come straight off the hill into the Walkers Bar which serves local ales such as Wainwright and Lancaster Bomber. The bar is frequented by many locals, so there's always lots of local information on offer. Alternatively, enjoy some tea and delicious home baking by the open fire in the lounge. The prettily decorated bedrooms have a cosy country feel to them and have the most magnificent views of Langdale Pikes and Stickle Beck. Dinner, served in the attractive dining room, is essentially a traditional English affair with some continental influences. The surrounding hills cater for all levels of walkers. There's also riding and golfing as well as boating and water skiing on nearby Windermere - all in all a perfect Lakeland experience.
