The river Avon and river Stour meet at Christchurch Harbour, just near where The Kings Hotel is situated. The hotel is a lovely big Georgian building looking out to the carefully manicured Kings Arms Bowling Green directly in front of it, and the ancient Christchurch Castle ruins. The communal areas are tastefully decorated - soft grey plaid sofas here, a selection of artfully placed curved mirrors on the wall there. Bedrooms are en-suite with voluptuous beds. Rooms come with flatscreen televisions, DVD/CD players, iPod docks and complimentary internet access. Later on, Jacks, the restaurant here, serves simple seasonal dishes using locally sourced ingredients from Christchurch, the New Forest and seafood caught on the South Coast. With pretty boats floating on the harbour and a weekly market run since the 1100s, breaking for just one century in all that time, you'll not be short of things to see either. From Christchurch, you can explore the New Forest National Park and Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, where you may spot the odd golden ammonite shining out of the cliff surfaces.
