Situated in the delightful bustling town of Yarmouth, the oldest settlement on the island, The George is the former home of the Governor of the Isle of Wight, and has been a much-beloved inn since 1764. Occupying a architecturally prestigious building right on the town quay, The George remains a house of social and gastronomic entertainment situated by the little port crammed in summer by visiting yachts. The individually designed bedrooms are atmospheric and warm, with all the little details providing comfort and relaxation. The gently traditional atmosphere, old-world character, stylish detail and views of The Solent are intoxicating. Dining at The George is a big attraction; the menu is well-balanced, appetising, very good value, featuring the contemporary brasserie style cooking with a European influence. The ingredients are locally sourced and organic where possible and not surprisingly, fresh fish features prominently. Easily reachable by the Lymington ferry, Yarmouth is a lovely town to stroll around, and the surrounding coast and countryside are stunning. After an enjoyable day sightseeing and the indulgence of good food, a bed in such romantic surroundings is bliss!
