In the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, Boat of Garten is a peaceful Highland village set among heather-clad hills alongside the salmon-rich River Spey, the water source for many of the world's finest malt whiskeys. More About Boat Hotel was once a stop on the Great North of Scotland railway route, and The Boat occupies the fine old Victorian station hotel where anglers and other sporting types would install themselves for Highland holidays.

Fully restored to its Victorian splendour, complete with polished wooden floors, Oriental rugs and marble fireplaces, this hotel is a welcoming one; the bedrooms are comfortably traditional, while the Capercaillie Restaurant has a bolder contemporary feel to match the chef's stylish cuisine. Signature dishes include warm crouton of pigeon breast with black cherries on a mustard seed and red wine cream. Informal meals can also be taken in the relaxing lounge bar, and there is a lively and popular public bar with occasional live music.

The Boat's sporting pedigree lives on - adjacent to the hotel is the 18-hole Championship Boat of Garten golf course. Nearby Rothiemurchus Estate offers numerous outdoor activities and is home to a charming old shooting lodge, Drumintoul - a wonderful venue for weddings and conferences.
