Much praised in Much Wenlock - and only 10 minutes from Ironbridge

The modern Olympic Games owe much to a certain Dr Penny Brookes, who lived in Much Wenlock - he founded the Wenlock Olympian Society in 1850 and, years later, worked with Baron Coubertin to found the modern Olympic movement. In... More About Raven Hotel & Restaurant 1890, the Baron wrote: 'And of the Olympic Games ... it is not a Greek to whom one is indebted but rather to Dr W P Brookes'. Since the games began, the Raven has been the haunt of spectators and competitors alike. Then, as now, the traditional welcome is as warm as a 300-year-old coaching inn can muster. The place has immense character: the flower-filled courtyard gives access to bedrooms which have been delightfully furnished. There are four-poster bedrooms and an imaginatively designed galleried suite that tastefully blends old and new. For a more contemporary feel, book one of their wonderful new 'Forge' rooms. Before you dine, have a look at the Olympian memorabilia on display in the public rooms - and then prepare yourself for a treat. Look at the menu, and you will agree with Paddy Burt of the Daily Telegraph: 'This is what I call serious food'. It's imaginative and delicious, with a good choice of something traditional, much higher up the culinary scale. All told, the Raven is without doubt an absolute winner!
