More About Manor House Hotel & Country Club
English manor house is reputed to have been one of Henry VIII's hunting lodges. Henry and the Prince Bishops of Durham had an uneasy relationship, which climaxed in the stripping of their virtual independence and semi-regal powers during his centralisation of state power. The rooms are suitably attired for such an historic building. Sink into a finely tooled four-poster bed in rooms that truly offer the space a bed of such stature requires. The hotel lovingly adheres to its heritage with oak panelling in some of the rooms, accompanied by period furniture and antiques. Modern luxury is a key feature of the Manor House, with swimming pool, spa, sauna, steam room, fitness suite and beauty treatments on offer. Head a mile or so out of town for a further dose of ancient times at the Binchester Roman Fort, or to nearby Escomb and its fine early Christian architecture. Shopaholics will love the south end of Newgate Street or Fore Bondgate, for specialist shops you just won't find on most high streets.
