Roman Camp Country House takes its name from earthworks to the east of its walled gardens, believed to be the site of a Roman fort. It was built originally as a hunting lodge in 1625 for the Dukes of Perth, and passed into the ownership of Viscount Esher in 1897; the turrets that give the building its unique character were added at that time.
