Roman Camp Country House(Perthshire, Highlands, UK) |

A great big pink country house in the midst of the Trossachs National Park, Roman Camp Country House is named for what's believed to be the site of a Roman fort next to its gardens. A grand hunting hangout for the nobility in bygone eras, the house transformed into a hotel in the late 30s. There are luxurious tartan furnishings throughout, with each of the fourteen bedrooms showing an individual twist in its decor. Some have 200 year-old furniture and all have the amenities you would expect of luxury accommodation, including LCD flatscreen satellite televisions. There is a fantastic library with 16th century oak paneling and a large log fire at its heart and the restaurant is housed in a great oval room featuring tapestries depicting English cathedrals. Dinners are an eclectic mix of Scottish dishes with European twists with canapés to start and elegant desserts to finish. On Sundays the restaurant serves a particularly excellent roast. Roman Camp has 20 acres of its own land to explore, but beyond that there are opportunities for invigorating walks beside the River Teith and over the heather covered moors of the Highlands, the heather burned into beautiful patterns to keep it young, as it has been for centuries.
