Penally Abbey sits high above Carmarthen Bay, calmly surveying the easternmost portion of the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast National Park from its lovely Gothic windows.
Little remains of the abbey's monastic origins, save a ruined chapel in the five-acre grounds. However, the listed house is full of character and elegant old-world charm. The bedrooms, both in the main house and adjoining coach house, have been furnished in period style (some have four-posters) and are equipped with every modern comfort. Rooms in the new St Deiniol's Lodge are a fusion of classic and contemporary styles.
For evenings of fine weather, there is an outdoor terrace for drinks. Dinner is a romantic, candlelit affair in the dining room, where the emphasis is on delicious food created from local ingredients.
