Pen-y-Dyffryn was built as a rectory in 1845 for an eccentric Celtic scholar and spiritual and mental refreshment are certainly high on the menu at this beautiful country hotel. With its quite magnificent setting almost a thousand feet up on the last hill in Shropshire and facing all the splendour of the Welsh mountains, the hotel offers a superb retreat from all the stress and bustle of everyday life. The rooms with private patios, the Jacuzzis in the bathrooms and the dining experience with its emphasis on local ingredients reinforces that 'away-from-it-all' feeling. It's the ideal place to clear the mind, fill the lungs with clear country air and recharge the batteries. Nearby, castles and medieval towns such as Chester and Shrewsbury offer plenty of interest. The area is festooned with footpaths, guests can go fishing, play golf at the picturesque Oswestry course, or just allow the soul to bathe in the truly unspoilt natural beauty of the hotel's wonderful surroundings. People return again and again for the easy going atmosphere created by the owners, Miles and Audrey Hunter. The interior exudes a cosy warmth and tranquillity whilst views in all directions are out of this world. This is a real retreat from everyday life.
