'Tis a very pritty place', wrote the diarist Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, who made her home here in the early 18th century - and she would probably feel quite at home revisiting Middlethorpe today.
Middlethorpe is set in 20 acres of parkland and gardens, where guests can stroll in the glorious rose garden and admire the magnificent cedar of Lebanon standing sentinel behind the house. They can also enjoy a gentle game of croquet or a session in the well-equipped health and fitness spa, with its large indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms, gym and beauty salons. In addition to its prime location for racing enthusiasts, Middlethorpe is ideally placed for visiting the historic city of York. Further afield are ancient abbeys, Castle Howard and the Yorkshire Dales.
