More About Llangoed Hall
1912, the great architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis designed it as a gracious country house, retaining the surviving Jacobean porch as part of the south wing.
Sir Bernard Ashley saw Llangoed Hall as the place where he could fulfill his ambition to recreate the atmosphere of an Edwardian house party. There is no reception desk, just friendly staff to carry the bags. In summer, the Great Hall's French windows are open so that guests can enjoy the garden. In winter, the huge stone fireplace has a merry log blazing. Fine portraits and works by Whistler and the Edwardians adorn the Picture Gallery's walls and bedrooms are decorated with furnishings from Sir Bernard's fabric company, Elanbach, situated in the hotel's grounds.
The dining room offers modern classical cooking, making the most of fresh local produce such as Welsh lamb, salmon and laverbread.
The secluded Wye Valley and the Black Mountains are all around; the Brecon Beacons, Cardiff, Hay-on-Wye, Caerphilly, Raglan and Powis Castles and Tintern Abbey are nearby.
