Lindeth Howe Country House(Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria, UK) |

|
Set on a gentle slope overlooking Lake Windermere, Lindeth Howe was built as a holiday home for a wealthy mill owner in 1879. The house was often rented out to family and friends, among them the Potter family. Between 1905 and 1913, Beatrix Potter was a regular visitor and wrote and illustrated several of her children's stories here, including Timmy Tiptoes (1911) and Pigling Bland (1913). Today, holidaymakers can still delight in the spectacular views from Lindeth Howe's sunny terrace. The peace and quiet is as relaxing and reviving as ever, but now guests can also enjoy the hotel's 21st-century comforts, subtly blended into the traditional fabric of the house. Bedrooms range from comfy singles through to spacious doubles, twins and family rooms, as well as honeymoon suites with half-tester beds and stunning lake views. There is a fine restaurant, comfortable lounge and separate reading room, and leisure facilities including an indoor pool, sauna and fitness room. For getting out and about, mountain bike rentals, golf reservations and fishing permits can all be arranged by the hotel. Lindeth Howe also works closely with The Mountain Goat tour company, offering full and half-day sightseeing tours of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District - a great opportunity to explore further the world of Beatrix Potter!
