Langdon Court must be one of the prettiest country houses in England. Its wisteria-clad Georgian façade, Elizabethan chimneys and English renaissance garden are beautifully picturesque. Situated deep in the rolling Devonshire countryside just one mile from the beach, Langdon Court is only mintues from the centre of Plymouth. The house has a rich history (with notable residents including Henry VIII), and the recent complete refurbishment has enhanced the period features while giving the place a stylish, contemporary feel. The subtle Farrow and Ball colour schemes, the uncovered, well worn, black and white marble floors, and the minimalistic furnishings are magnificent. In the spacious bedrooms you'll find king-sized beds, romantic window seats, large flat screen TVs and beautifully appointed bathrooms. The food, carefully overseen by a talented young French chef, is exceptional. There's a stylish brasserie bar as well as a fine dining restaurant and such delights as Cornish mussels, locally reared steak and Devon crab appear on the menu. Soft fruit, vegetables and herbs are grown in the kitchen's own gardens. Langdon Court makes an excellent base for anyone wishing to explore the Devon coast and countryside, and maritime attractions of Plymouth.
