Langar Hall was built in 1837 on the site of a great historic house, the home of Admiral Lord Howe. It stands in quiet seclusion overlooking lovely gardens beyond which sheep graze among ancient trees; below the croquet lawn lies a romantic network of medieval fishponds stocked with carp. This charming hotel is the family home of Imogen Skirving, who combines the standards of good hotelkeeping with the hospitality of an informal country house where children are welcome. Most of the bedrooms enjoy lovely views, and every one is quiet, comfortable and well-equipped. Downstairs, explore the study, a quiet room for reading and meetings; the white sitting room, perfect for afternoon tea and drinks before dinner; the Indian room, ideal for private parties and conferences; and the dining room. This elegant pillared Hall is open every day for lunch and dinner and is a popular neighbourhood restaurant, serving fresh seasonal food with an emphasis on game in winter and fish in summer.
