Originally known as the Munster Arms, the hotel was built in 1900 and purchased in 1961 by Marie and Marcus Treacy, who transformed it from what was then the Criterion to the new Royal Hotel. In 1976, the Treacys' daughter Margaret and her husband, Joe Scally, inherited the hotel. Today, the Killarney Royal is an exclusive four-star boutique-style treat; A sensitive refurbishment brought air conditioning, individual styling and a revival of period features, making this hotel a grand success. After three generations of ownership, the Scallys see excellence as the main ingredient for this reputation, an aim seen in their staff's genuine desire to please.
