More About Gregans Castle
and every possible comfort. It has served as a haven for botanists, bird watchers and Hollywood film stars alike.
Gregans Castle was built as a private house more than 250 years ago for the Martyn family to replace their home in the old castle nearby. Today, it is one of the most comfortable hostelries on the west coast of Ireland, and is owned and managed by Simon Haden and Fredericke McMoray. The rooms are splendidly relaxing, and dinner is an essential - and award-winning! - part of the day, with a special emphasis placed on local produce.
Only an hour's scenic drive from Shannon airport, Gregans' magnificent locale is called The Burren and is known worldwide for wildflowers and distinctive scenery. A rich legacy of ancient monuments tells the story of inhabitants as far back as 5,000 years. The seascapes are dramatic: the Atlantic Ocean, Galway Bay, the famous Cliffs of Moher, two golden beaches and several small local fishing harbours of character.
