Before you even step over the threshold it is abundantly clear why this charmingly decorative property has won so many coveted awards. Well-known Yorkshire chef Rick Hodgson and his wife Sue have put their heart and soul into developing this business since 2002. The interiors, which have been featured in House Beautiful magazine, could be described as 'countrified chic' - and are, at the same time, elegant yet homely. All the rooms are bright and fresh and styled with impeccable taste. The bathrooms are very luxurious and come generously supplied with plenty of thick fluffy towels and Clarins toiletries. The food is a whole other experience unto itself and one which guests will not forget in a hurry. If you take a look at Rick's blog you'll get a feel for the lengths he goes to to produce a wholly original menu using nothing but the best local suppliers. For breakfast alone there's Masham sausage, kippers from the Yorkshire coast, home-made preserves and Taylors Yorkshire teas and coffees. Gallon House is located in a prominent position overlooking the River Nidd. From their delightful terrace you get the best views of Knaresborough's 14th century castle and the old stone viaduct.
