This is a charming Grade II listed Georgian property in the unspoilt seaside village of Sandsend. Located five minutes up the coast from Captain Cook's hometown of Whitby, the property is bordered by a sandy beach on one side and the vast expanse of the North Yorkshire Moors on the other. The open plan kitchen forms the very heart of Estbek House and it is where you'll find co-owner Tim Lawrence - formerly the head chef at renowned Whitby eaterie Trenchers. The menu incorporates the very best local produce and changes seasonally. The catch of the day, always fresh and never farmed, is usually served pan seared with either a white wine sauce or lemon butter. Fellow co-proprietor, David Cross, has compiled a notable wine list of over 200 bins of Australian and New Zealand wines - many unavailable elsewhere in the UK. As with the food, the recently refurbished bedrooms are all about attention to detail. They have a cosy country feel with wooden furniture and handmade patchwork quilts. There are many period features such as the pretty Georgian windows and original exposed ships timbers. The bedrooms overlook the beach and ancient woods and at night guests can fall asleep to the soporific sound of the sea.
