A palace in its own right in the shadow of Conwy Castle

One of Conwy's most photographed buildings, this old coaching inn stands on the site of a Cistercian abbey. Its fascinating past as a hotel includes visits by Telford, Stephenson, Wordsworth and a past queen of Romania.

More About Castle Hotel interior is charming, relaxed but fascinating; 28 bedrooms and suites await, including a particularly grand four-poster bed from 1570 - considered to have once played home to Charles I when he stayed with a prominent local family during the Civil War. Victorian illustrator John Dawon-Watson spent many of his last days at the Castle Hotel, and though it's not certain whether his paintings paid for his lodgings, the hotel is certainly filled with his work, including a series of scenes from Shakespeare that give the hotel's restaurant its name. Cooking here is brilliant, a mix of traditional and modern created by Chef/Director Graham Tinsley with an emphasis on local Welsh produce.

Centrally located in Conwy near the quay and the castle, the hotel is an ideal base for Welsh travels; choose between a visit to the coast, walking in Snowdonia National Park, sailing, riding, golf and much more.
