Browns Hotel(Tavistock, Devon, UK) |

Set right in the heart of the ancient market town of Tavistock, Brown's hotel was once a 17 th century coaching house. It still has the original oak beams, stone walls and cosy open fireplaces, but now with the added benefit of 21 st century standards of luxury and comfort. Brown's offers a range of four-star accommodation, from romantic four-poster rooms (if you like a bit of historical reenactment) to executive suites (if you prefer more space). Each room is individually styled, and you can expect the highest standards of comfort throughout. You don't need to go out to eat well - Brown's houses an award-winning restaurant, offering exciting seasonal menus made from locally sourced foods. The lamb, rabbit, game birds and venison all come from Dartmoor. Fish is mostly local catch from the nearby fishing port of Brixton. Herbs come straight from the hotel's own herb garden. Even the hotel's pure still or sparkling water comes from the hotel well, believed to date back to Roman times. (Of course you don't have to drink the water - they've got an excellent wine list too.) If you're venturing out, Brown's is a stone's throw from local shops and markets - and makes an excellent base for anyone wanting to explore the stunning Dartmoor countryside. Fabulous.
