Alderney has got to be one of the British Isle's most idyllic outposts. Located eight miles off the French coast and blessed with a balmy climate, it's a little less than two miles wide and four miles long with stunning coastal cliffs and sandy beaches, turquoise waters, an abundance of wildlife and a great golf course. Braye Beach is regarded as one of the island's finest yet remains relatively quiet and unspoilt. The hotel itself is bright and airy with a distinctive beachside feel. The interiors are exquisitely designed and are appointed to the very highest standard. The bedrooms are fresh and exceptionally comfortable with a slight continental air. Some have French windows with balconies and fabulous views of the beach, the bay and the lovely old harbour beyond. All rooms have flat screen TVs, bathrobes and a choice of classic films on tap. The gleaming bathrooms have feature baths and power showers as well as luxurious toiletries. There's a formal restaurant as well as a beachside bar and decked terraced. The food is exceptional with locally caught seafood the main attraction. If something can't be sourced locally it's flown in fresh from markets in France. An unsurpassed island get-away you'll want to return to.
