enclosed by mellow stone walls, the lovely gardens include a rare and intricate parterre planted with sweet-smelling herbs, a rose garden and several follies, as well as a croquet lawn. The kitchen garden is also an important feature, contributing fresh ingredients for the dining room, a skillful showcase of the best of local produce.
The interior of the hall has been beautifully restored and furnished with an eye to both comfort and style. Of special note is the oak-panelled drawing room, with its tiled fireplace and stone mullioned windows providing a relaxing and peaceful retreat for guests. There are 15 attractive and very comfortable bedrooms, including in early 2008 two additional 'Principal Suites' in the main house to give a total of 4. There are 16 cottage suites in the grounds for guests who prefer a greater degree of privacy, some are adjacent to the first-class spa, where guests enjoy unlimited use of the 20 metre indoor pool, spa bath, sauna, steam room and gym; six beauty rooms also offer a range of treatments.
