Ballyvolane House(Cork, Co Cork, Ireland) |

Step into a world of refined decadence and genteel elegance. Surrounded by idyllic landscaped gardens and age-old parklands, Ballyvolane House is an opulent country manor boasting magnificent interiors and authentic country cuisine. Built in 1728 by the then Lord Chief Justice of Ireland, Sir Richard Pyne, owners Justin and Jenny Green have seen to it that this classic Georgian mansion has lost none of its aristocratic grandeur and country warmth. Plush and utterly luxurious, Ballyvolane's bedrooms are individually-appointed with sumptuous antique furniture and awash with light from double sash windows that frame stunning views of terraced gardens or the ancient woodlands, lakes and mountains of the historic Munster Blackwater Valley. Some of the elegant bathrooms have beautiful old freestanding bathtubs to soak the stress away. Unwind on a Chesterfield sofa under a crystal chandelier in the elaborate Ballyvolane drawing room or stroll the serene estate before retiring to the lavish dining room to enjoy rich Irish country cooking. Meats, fish, vegetables, traditional cheeses and seasonal game are all sourced from Ballyvolane's own walled garden, local farms and rivers. Breads, pastries, cakes and fruit preserves are all made on the premises. Another option is the wonderful O'Brien Chop House in nearby Lismore. Also owned by Justin and Jenny, The O'Brien Chop House is an unpretentious eatery that offers diners traditional and robust Irish recipes in a wonderfully atmospheric old Victorian pub. The picturesque valleys around Ballyvolane are a heaven for anglers, walkers, golfers, horse-riders and garden-lovers. Market towns of Fermoy, Midleton and Tallow, as well as Cork, Ireland's second city, are all nearby while the Rock of Cashel, the Waterford Crystal, the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula can all be easily explored on day trips.
