Ballinalacken Castle Country House(Doolin, Co Clare, Ireland) |

Ballinalacken Castle Country House is a highly recommended spot from which to explore this fascinating corner of Ireland's West Coast. There's much to see nearby including Clare's famous 700 ft Cliffs of Moher, where you can spot many sea birds including puffins, and the unusual limestone scenery in the Burren National Park. From Doolin harbour you can take the ferry to the outlying Aran Islands where you'll still find Gaelic speaking communities. For that authentic Irish experience there are plenty of lively pubs in the area that host live music sessions. The Ballinalacken House was built by Lord O'Brien in the mid 1800s and the ruined 15th century castle adjacent belonged to the O'Brien clan. The hotel, which has been in the Callaghan family for nearly 70 years, is full of warmth and personality. The traditional interiors are furnished with antique pieces and the O'Callaghan's have worked hard to preserve the grandeur of the period. Bedrooms are comfortably furnished. Some have four-poster beds and many have stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic coast. Doolin crabmeat cakes, Irish beef and fresh Clare lamb feature on the menu created by Head Chef Michael Foley. Ballinalacken offers an original and undiluted taste of the West coast.
