Overlooking the lazy River Arrow in Warwickshire, the Arrow Mill stands where a mill has been since at least the Domesday Book in 1086. It was milling away then, and did so for several hundred years after. Today's mill was constructed in the Georgian era and the last millers left in the sixties. Today Arrow Mill is a gorgeous boutique hotel with great beams across ceilings and bold colours on the walls. The beautiful rooms boast panoramic views of the river and surrounding meadows. Outside there are 50 acres of grounds to wander around, and the hotel rears its own chickens and has a garden for growing some of the vegetables used in seasonal dishes whipped up by the kitchen. It even has its own bees for the production of Arrow Mill honey. What doesn't directly come from here is sourced from local producers. You might sample garden spinach with crispy hens egg, or perhaps game from the in-house smoker served with garden beets. After years of being stationary, the big water wheel has been restored to its former glory, and is finally turning again. At reception, staff can arrange tours of nearby Stratford-upon-Avon, just a few minute's drive away. A bit further afield you can explore magnificent Warwick Castle and the romantic Cotswolds.
