Alt na Craig House(Oban, Argyll, UK) |

Places of this quality are relatively scarce up the West Coast and, therefore, Alt na Craig House is highly recommended to anyone planning a Highland itinerary or looking for a stopover en route to the islands. This handsome turreted Victorian house, set in three acres of grounds, occupies an unrivalled location above the town with utterly stunning views of Oban Bay, Dunollie Castle and the island of Kerrera - yet is just a stone's throw from the ferry terminal and town centre. Owners Sandy and Ina MacArthur aim to provide an authentic Scottish experience in a 'chic boutique style' setting. With only six rooms, the attention to detail and level of service is fastidious and an extensive eight month renovation has resulted in a true luxury B&B. The bedrooms, named after islands in the region, are spacious and luxuriously appointed. No two rooms are the same and each one effortlessly combines original Victorian features and contemporary designer fabrics and furnishings. All rooms have iPod/iPhone docking stations, flat screen TVs, hand tufted beds of the highest quality and first rate bathrooms. When it comes to dinner there are a number of very good restaurants in Oban, including some excellent places serving local seafood, as well as fine pubs, some with live Scottish music.
