Wingfield Manor
Historic Houses & Building, Historic Sites & Monuments
|
Huge, ruined, country mansion built in mid-15th century.
Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned here in 1569. Though unoccupied since the 1770's, the late-Gothic Great hall and the 'High Tower' are fine testaments to Wingfield in its heyday. Great Hall and grounds only, suitable for disabled visitors, steep approach. "English Heritage Photographic Library"
