A superb range of fine and decorative arts

The Wallace Collection is a national museum. It is housed in Hertford House, Manchester Square, which was originally built for the 4th Duke of Manchester in 1776-88. It is a rare survivor of a London town house occupying the whole northside of the garden square. The museum itself houses a superb range of fine and decorative arts from the 16th - 19th centuries. It was formed largely between 1802 and 1875 by three generations of the Marquesses of Hertford and by the 4th Marquess' son, Sir Richard Wallace. Although it is probably best known for its magnificent 18th century French paintings, furniture and porcelain, the Wallace Collection also displays many other treasures such as paintings by Titian, Rembrandt, Rubens and Frans Hals (The Laughing Cavalier). There is also the finest collection of princely armour and arms in Britain, as well as choice and opulent displays of gold boxes, miniatures, sculpture and medieval and Renaissance works of art such as majolica, glass and Limoges enamels. The Wallace Collection offers some of the most spectacular rooms in London for entertaining and is available a limited number of times a year for corporate and private receptions and dinners. OPENING TIMES ALL YEAR - Weekdays: 10am - 5pm Sunday: 2 - 5pm Closed Good Friday, May Day, 24 - 26 December and New Year's Day
